Allegheny (Western) Theological Seminary

Allegheny (Western) Theological Seminary was located at the corner of North Ave and Buena Vista Street. The location is now occupied by the Trinity Lutheran Church where sister was later married by Rev. Paul Sampsell in 1970.

The house at 1201 Buena Vista, which can been seen below or at the lower left hand corner to the left was the home of our friend "Wally" who lived in the 3rd floor apartment with his parents

and 3 siblings. The first and second floors were individual apartments. The old man who occupied the first floor would frequently scold those ascending to the upper floors for making too much noise on the staircase.

Aerial View shows the former location of the Seminary. Approximate footprint inside the red line. The building sat square to the block unlike the current church which is shifted to the right. Bounded by Eloise in the rear and Monterey to the far right, The Boggs Mansion is situated to the right (partially visible in the photo above). The inverted L building is the Allegheny YMCA built and opened in 1927. As a young girl, our mother purchased a brick toward construction for a donation of $1.00 and we heard about it every time we passed the building!
